Twenty-eight people attended a Town Hall event that was organized by Wayne Walvoord, COS Regional Captain for Northern and Eastern Colorado. The event featured Gabe Evans and Yazmin Navarro.
Wayne kicked off the activities by providing all attendees with COS literature.
The Town Hall served mostly as a meet and greet to build a working relationship between COS and community with Evans and Navarro.
Gabe Evans is a newly elected member of Congress (CO-8) and Yazmin Navarro is a newly elected Member of the Colorado State Board of Education (CO-8).
Gabe Evans, a COS petition signee, said that he completed his freshman orientation, and his initial focus is on seeking assignment to the Energy Committee. Evans believes assignment to the Energy Committee is a distinct possibility because Northern Colorado is a vital cog in the nation’s energy production. Northern Colorado, Evans elaborated, is home to many natural energy sources and Weld County is one of the largest oil and gas producers in the country.
Yazmin Navarro will start her freshman orientation this week. Navarro emphasized her background as a mom and educator will ultimately guide her policies.
Both Evans and Navarro stressed the importance of constituents staying connected, providing feedback, following, and supporting their offices.
While Evans and Navarro both admit there is a steep learning curve to holding state and federal office, they believe they are prepared to hit the ground running once sworn into office.
Wayne will periodically follow up with Evans and Navarro once they are sworn into office. For more information on the Town Hall and future events in CO-8, please contact Wayne at wayne.walvoord@cosaction.com.
