The Road Less Traveled: How a Former Union Rep Became a COS CT District Captain

Published in Blog on May 04, 2020 by Michaela Prchlik

Stamford resident Suzanne Rossini had a very unique path to Convention of States. Growing up in Lowell, Massachusetts, she was the product of a politically active, Democratic household, and later moved to New York to become a music teacher. She taught in the New York public school system for 35 years, and also served as a union representative for the teachers union. This does not sound like the life story of a typical COS District Captain, so how exactly did Suzanne find her way to this movement?

Like an increasing number of Democrats today, Suzanne started feeling like the party was “…not the Democratic Party of my grandfather.”  She suddenly found herself voting for the candidate that she thought would enact change rather than just voting along party lines, which led her on a slow transition to conservatism.
Two years ago, as she was listening to radio host Mark Levin, Convention of States was mentioned on the program. Interested in learning more, Suzanne went to Convention of States.com, signed the petition, and was quickly asked to get volunteer in Connecticut by becoming a District Captain.

Developing a District in a blue state like Connecticut isn’t easy. For the first year, Suzanne hosted a monthly “Patriots Breakfast,” yet the only attendees were COS volunteers from other districts. Undeterred, Suzanne continued to work hard to spread the COS message in her district, and now has over 50 contacts in her district.

Suzanne has not stopped at collecting contacts, however, and came up with a unique concept to continue to bring her district together. Inspired by the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain, Suzanne is doing a pilgrimage around Stamford by walking to each of her COS contact’s home. To date, she has logged over 50 miles, and visited 30 houses! See the video above to learn more about Suzanne's strategy.

Convention of States is a community of hard-working Patriots, like Suzanne, who are intent on restoring America's founding principle of self-governance. Regardless of the road taken to the movement, once a volunteer joins the COS Connecticut family, we will unite and journey together to accomplish our goal in Connecticut and beyond. Join us today by becoming a volunteer!
