As the old saying goes, 'many hands make light work' and that was the case for the Convention of States volunteers working the Central States Fair booth in Rapid City, S.D. this year.
District Captain John James organized the event this year and had more than a dozen volunteers from several areas across the state to help with the 10-day event.
"This was a big effort and required lots of help," said James. "It was easy to setup the booth but making sure we had volunteers at all the shifts required a little extra effort. Luckily in South Dakota we have a strong team and enthusiastic group of volunteers."
"The Central States Fair team showcases the commitment level from our volunteerism," said David Schneider, COS Regional Director.
Having so many difference faces work the booth is a great way to show the popularity of the movement as well as the growth of COS in our state.
"The growth in activism in South Dakota is amazing!" added Schneider. "I have been working the state the last six years and I remember being the only person showing up. Now we have multiple events weekly across the state."
Plus, each person has a different community and belongs to different organizations so that makes it easy to network to a wide range of people stopping to ask questions at the booth.
"It was great to have so many different people help at the booth," said James. "These volunteers were instrumental in spreading the positive message of Convention of States and gathering almost 250 new petition signers."
