FREEDOM CARAVAN draws hundreds of Maui onlookers

Published in Blog on March 14, 2022 by Lorinda Alana

On February 28, 2022, hundreds of concerned citizens gathered in a parking lot near Maalaea Harbor and shared the good news of a unified vision for freedom.  We shared our hopes and dreams for a restored free community with inalienable rights intact and no mask mandates in Hawaii.

This came on the heels of discovering that Hawaii is the only state left in the country that has not dropped statewide indoor mask mandates.

Ige has stated that he has not decided as late as this past Friday, March 4, on whether to extend the mask mandate past March 25th or not (see https://www.civilbeat.org/2022/03/hawaii-governor-rules-out-partial-lifting-of-indoor-mask-mandate/).

At the lot, different folks took to the mic to discuss community sentiment, political strategy and our dissent of governmental overreach. Scott Adams expressed his intention to run for House of Reps for the Republican Party District 13. A local bake shop handed out free chocolate chip cookies as well as a generous batch of positive vibrations. Dozens of vehicles, including a fire truck, souped-up pickup trucks and a motorcade of bikes, spent the next couple hours honking and waving flags to supporters and detractors alike as we made our way down Kihei Road to North Wailea. Dozens of both tourists and residents trained their phones on our Freedom Caravan from the roadside to make videos. Then, the caravan hair-pinned back and went northbound on the same road.

I was delighted to find that many of the previous onlookers had gone inside to find flags and returned outside on our northbound leg to join our movement with cheers, smiles and flag waving from the sidelines. I got a few petition signers for Convention of States along the way even though I was in my car for 99% of the time. I guess the banner worked!
