The Boston Tea Party
In 1767, the British Government passed the Townshend Act which placed a tax on all tea sold in the colonies. The colonists, who consumed a great deal of tea, complained that the law was unfair. The government made a few concessions to appease the growing discontent but refused to repeal the tax on tea. It wasn’t the financial impact that upset the colonists, it was a matter of principle, so they refused to comply. They blocked the harbors and appealed to the government to send the ships back to England.
Like many tyrannical governments, the British denied the request, refusing to even listen to the people they governed. As a result, on December 16, 1773, a small group of colonists held a tea party in Boston.
The British response was quick and severe. When oppressive actions didn’t work, they tried to appease the colonists. But by that time, it was too late. The American Revolution had begun – started by a small number of colonists resisting tyranny in Boston.
Fast Forward to 2021-22
On Nov. 19, 2021, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government announced requirements making vaccines and quarantine mandatory for all cross-border truck drivers beginning January 15, 2022. This was just one more overreach in a long list of infringements on personal freedom. The truckers appealed to the government, trying to express their unhappiness, but the Prime Minister refused to listen.
On January 28, 2022, a large convoy of trucks, protesting the vaccine mandate, began arriving in Ottawa. They called themselves “The Freedom Convoy 2022” and, on January 29th, they, and thousands of supporters, held a loud but peaceful protest in downtown Ottawa.
Trudeau was incensed. He referred to the truckers as a:
“fringe minority” with “unacceptable views.”
Trudeau believed, he said, in the right to protest for acceptable causes and even took a knee at a Black Lives Matter demonstration. But he linked the Freedom Convoy 2022 with racism and violence and refuses to meet with them.
On January 29, 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act. He sent well-armed police to break windows and arrest the truckers. He froze their bank accounts and confiscated their rigs. And he threatened anyone who posted video with jail time.
“They are like the Boston Tea Party,” stated Peter Navarro. “They’re the fountainhead of a worldwide movement, which is basically on the right side of both science and economics. And we have to thank those Canadian truckers.”
It’s Our Turn Now
It’s time to extend our torch across the border and ignite it with the flame of Canadian civil disorder. It’s time to stand up to tyranny. American truckers are ready to roll.
The People’s Convoy will hit the road on February 23rd to demand the Emergency Powers Act be lifted, ending the mandates. Their press release, posted in Adelanto, California, on February 19, 2022, reads as follows:
“American truckers are launching The People’s Convoy, a peaceful and unified transcontinental movement, on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, from the Adelanto Stadium in Southern California. Starting at 10:00 a.m., hundreds of truckers will hear words of encouragement and blessings from a group of speakers supporting them on their journey. The truckers and blue-collar workers of the United States will be joined by freedom-loving supporters from all walks of life – frontline doctors, lawyers, first-responders, former military servicemen and women, students, retirees, mothers, fathers and children – on this peaceful and law-abiding transcontinental journey toward the east coast. The truckers encourage one and all to come out to the stadium in the heart of Adelanto, California to wish them well and see them off."
All individuals are welcome to participate by either attending the launch gathering – at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday February 23, at Adelanto Stadium – or by getting in their own vehicles and following the big rigs from Adelanto toward the east coast!
The People’s Convoy Route:
- The convoy will be departing from Adelanto at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, heading east to land in the vicinity of Kingman, Arizona that evening.
- On Thursday, February 24, the convoy will leave the Kingman area and head east toward the Lupton, Arizona vicinity.
- Friday morning (Feb 25) will see the convoy heading from the Lupton Arizona area, landing in the Glenrio, Texas area Friday night.
The People’s Convoy will abide by agreements with local authorities, and terminate in the vicinity of the DC area.

The Solution As Big As The Problem
Like those Patriots who founded our country – we must push beyond the protest, the resistance, the overreach of a tyrannical federal government. However, we must do so peacefully using the instrument our Founders left us in the Constitution. Article V gives us the tool to rein in an out of control federal government. It tells us how to call for a Convention of States and return power to the People.

In December 1773, John Adams wrote in his diary,
“This is the most magnificent movement of all....There is a dignity, a majesty, a sublimity in this last effort of the Patriots I greatly admire. The people should never rise without doing something to be remembered – something notable. And striking. This destruction of the tea is so bold, so daring, so firm, intrepid and inflexible, and it must have so important consequences, and so lasting that I cannot but consider it as an epocha [sic] in history.”
