Fox Nation's Tomi Lahren Offers Her Opinion of Convention of States

Published in Blog on February 21, 2022 by Martha Rubalcava

Tomi Lahren, who has been a Fox News contributor and commentator with BlazeTV, made an appearance at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ on February 17th.

Her appearance was coordinated by the university’s Turning Point USA chapter. Turning Point USA (also known as TPUSA) is a non-profit organization that encourages grassroots chapters to promote small government, free markets, and capitalism. Tomi’s topic of discussion, which was advertised since January, was titled “Tackling Tyranny.”

The audience consisted mostly of young students at the university; however, other members of the community were also present, including some families of the area.

Lahren first spoke about issues involving Covid-19, immigration, the upcoming midterm elections, the Canadian protests, and the lack of trust of those in Washington, D.C.

After about a 25-minute speech, Lahren opened the floor to points of inquiry for those in the crowd. Within seconds of opening the floor to questions, around 15 people formed in line formation. Many of the questions asked were quite civil; however, there were a few outliers which chose to attack Lahren with insulting questions. Lahren, however, did not appear to be affected at all by these agitators and instead maintained her civil countenance and tone.

When asked about her views on calling a Convention of States to impose term limits on members of Congress, Lahren began her answer by stating she had been unsure of her stance on term limits. She stated that she notices a problem with career politicians, and even gave the example of how current Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who has been a congresswoman since 1987, is looking for yet another term in the midterm elections.

Despite her recognizing the problem of career politicians, Lahren insisted that a Convention of States is a final resort, not the next step. Lahren preferred to endorse an idea of reinstating election integrity to establish elections where the people can “vote those people [career politicians] out.” She did not renounce the idea of a Convention of States, but merely stated that “election integrity is the next step.”

Her reason for not wanting a Convention of States was clear; she stated it is too difficult to amass the power of the states together to form the convention to fix the nation. Lahren is not entirely wrong. It is difficult. She is just wrong in assuming that because it is difficult, then it is impossible and therefore unforeseeable.

With the growing support for organizations like Convention of States (COS), the impossibility becomes a possibility. To tackle tyranny by convening and getting “hands on” in this fight is to imply eliminating tyranny all together and reestablishing the power to the people, because only then will it be possible to say that there can exist valid elections.
