What is the Followup Team?

Published in Blog on August 04, 2022 by Beth Outtrim

I work on the Followup Team. I am proud that COS’ first contact is to tell folks, “Thank you for signing our petition!” I think that is a great example of what COS is all about. The whole tone of a call from the Followup Team demonstrates our commitment to quality, good manners, and our policy of servant leadership.

We're a (very large) group of like-minded people that are willing to help build the grassroots army. They know that sitting around and fuming about how things are is not going to do anything constructive. As a matter of fact, it’s bad for my attitude. Life isn’t fun like that.

I signed the petition in 2018 and got active on the Followup Team in late 2019.  I think that my story should provide encouragement to all COS volunteers – never give up on someone. Your phone call, email or text message may trigger someone else to come and help us get our country back. It may take them two years, but they’ll be happy to participate when they get in touch again.

I’ve taken full advantage of the COS University courses, including some VAP (Volunteer Activity Plan). I’ve received questions from folks that had I not taken these courses, I wouldn’t have been able to answer! For example:

  • I’ve heard that COS is funded by George Soros.
    • No, that’s definitely not true. In fact, Mr. Soros has gone out of his way to fund approximately 130 organizations to denigrate COS. Soros is no friend of ours.
  • I’m afraid that a constitutional convention would “run away” and do away with the Second Amendment!
    • A – We are not interested in or recommending that we have a                      Constitutional Convention. We are proposing to use the                              Constitution’s Article V to have a Convention of States. This is a tool that has been used successfully many times in United States history.
    • B – There has never been a Convention of States that has “run away.” Towards the beginning of this country, there were many conventions; sometimes called and used successfully to resolve issues amongst a group of states, sometimes called for all the states. Several times in our past, this process has begun and the US House and Senate took it upon themselves to resolve the issue without the need for a Convention of States to complete the process. Don’t hold your breath on that happening!

I have trained several other COS volunteers in the Followup Tool and in the process, made a real and lasting friendship. Although she has changed VAP within the COS organization and lives on the other side of this large state, we still talk and/or correspond frequently.

Sometimes you find a COS supporter that is in close proximity to where you live and with whom you feel an instant rapport! Rare for me because I live in a very rural area quite far from any large metropolitan area. However, we now meet for a coffee or lunch and share a dog/cat sitter that we both use when the need arises.

As you can see, volunteering for COS gives you connection and purpose. Make sure you've signed the petition, and then sign up to volunteer for COS Arizona.
