We who are taxpayers and legitimate voting citizens have every reason to be very concerned about “featherbedding".. a word that includes this meaning: "The paying for services that are not actually performed”
While there are many federal employees who actually do a great service to our country, there are others clearly that coast along and receive significant income and benefits that may not be fully earned or are given a softer role than if they worked outside of Washington DC’s often lax oversight. Productivity in government is not entirely an oxymoron, as there are notable hard working civil servants.
So.. just how do we monitor and reduce excessive benefits of those who may take advantage of a less accountable system?
Hopefully, a more thorough introduction of efficiencies, as envisioned by the new DOGE advisory board, can make a genuine difference. We can agree that we should not continue down this path, that we need to see substantive change, as the American people have expressed their dissatisfaction in mutilpe surveys.. as We The People are literally FED UP with government waste and inefficiency.
A heartbreaking example of such incompetence in action was evident in the abysmal performance of FEMA (supposedly prepared to deal with emergencies!) in which little help was rendered and still appears to be inadequate to the task - with many people still living in tents in devastated areas as bitter winter weather approaches.
Instead, privately delivered and charitable aid by volunteers doing so much to help those desperately in need following the Helene and Milton storms have been recognized as far more impactful & beneficial — much quicker and effective than the Federal government could provide.
We have passed through a sea change lately at the polls, calling for a major restructuring of these spendthrift bureaucracies, while it is too early to see if such changes to the system will be enacted or once done, can simply be undone by a future presidential edict.
Let us have hope and faith that we can truly have a peaceful yet revolutionary impact. One very effective means of accomplishing meaningful and lasting change to limit such excesses is via an Article V Convention under the aegis Convention of States.
************
At Convention of States, we strongly uphold and protect the Constitution and encourage all interested parties to research us, sign our petition (calling for amendment topic proposals supported by a majority of fellow citizens).
We can achieve these goals without relying on Congress, which has yet to police itself.
The 3 topics/issues to be addressed in an Article V Convention are as follows:
1. Term Limits for Congress & Bureaucrats in Washington DC
2. Fiscal Responsibility
3. Reduction in the size and scope of the federal government
