Anyone who follows politics knows there is real evil in our Federal government. We see it when the most innocent lives among us are sacrificed in the name of “human rights” and “women’s right to choose.” We see it in the theft of capital and property in the name of “environmental justice.” We see it in the use of the Justice Department for actions that don't resemble justice.
”The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and for seven years he gave them into the hands of the Midianites.” Judges 6:1
It is easy for us, in the 21st Century to look at the story of Gideon as a fable from long ago, but those of us who know the Bible to be God's love letter to us recognize a profound parallel to our current political situation. Our COS team is living out the story of Gideon’s struggle against the evil Midianites who had overrun Israel, stealing and destroying everything the Israelites had created.
“Median so impoverished the Israelites that they cried out to the Lord for help.” Judges 6:6
When the angel of the Lord approached Gideon He said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?” Judges 6:14
“In the strength you have..” God did not want Gideon to gather a large army to defeat his enemy. Instead, he asked Gideon to rely on Him. Here at COS, we don’t have a huge political army behind us; we don’t have endless funds, powerful friends or a standing army to support us, but we have all the power we need because God is with us.
Gideon was not only afraid of the Midianites, but also of his neighbors and even his only family who had fallen into worship of pagan gods. As we fight alongside our COS teammates, we find ourselves in opposition to the political establishment, often standing against friends, neighbors and even family.
On April 20, 2021 God spoke to several COS members who had come to the lawn of the Legislature building in Raleigh, North Carolina. He bade them pray about this Gideon.
One COS prayer warrior reported the following events to me:
As the prayer team walked about in the Legislative complex, there appeared a black raven overhead which covered about a quarter of the sky. As the team continued to read Judges 6 and 7 aloud and confessed the sins of the government, the raven was pushed back and an impenetrable dome appeared over the mall. Many black creatures were peering into the dome. As the prayers continued, light began to fill the dome and the creatures were blinded and pushed away. The seeing eye was blinded.
Joy Ruhmann, Grant Martin, and Mark Meckler joined the prayer team. They all went into the judicial chapel to pray. Together, they asked God to open to them the Judicial chambers and the Judicial vote room. Although usually closed to any visitors, these rooms were opened to them and they prayed that God release angels and the Holy Spirit into the room.
On April 21, 2021, HJR 233 passed the NC House Judiciary Committee, advancing the COS cause to the NC Senate. Two Democrats who voted for the bill reportedly didn't know why they had done so. Perhaps it was the hundreds of COS supporters who were there. Perhaps it was the angels watching the Gideon-like overthrow of evil. Either way, all glory to God.
