On April 20 Region 4 held an immensely powerful Zoom meeting. Our leader William (Bill) Pacey asked each in attendance to take a deep dive and talk to the group about what truly motivated us to join Convention of States Action. The soul-searching made each of us recall what it was that initially led us to COS.
It reignited the spark to engage if we have slipped in our activity or to step up our efforts and give just a little more if we are already very engaged. In addition, Bill challenged each of us with the following question: “What does defending the Constitution mean to you?”
Personally, I was stumped by this question, but I should not have been. It should have been clear to me what that means. After all, I am constantly talking about the dissolution of our freedoms in America. However, this question stumped me. I am all too aware that our freedoms are being stripped every day, but I still could not clearly answer that question.
What does it mean to defend our Constitution? More importantly, what does it mean to make a sacrifice to secure the rights enshrined in our Constitution? I am still thinking about how to answer this, and that is the reason Bill asked this.
We can all talk about what is wrong and re-iterate the fact that our freedoms are slipping away, but we cannot all answer the question, “What are you willing to do about it?”
Personally, I needed to be challenged with that question. I needed to be reminded that talk is cheap, and action is what matters. Although I am still contemplating my why, I was inspired to re-engage and step up my effort because, no matter the why, the “what” is the same: we need to save our great country.
The “how” is:
- Become more engaged in our roles.
- Teach non-COS folks about their rights and how they are being violated!
- Ask other concerned citizens to help us save America for future generations by stepping out of their comfort zones and doing any combination of:
a. volunteering with COS
b. attending school board meetings
c. attending county commissioner and other local meetings
d. maintaining regular contact with their local and state representatives.
Thank you, Bill Pacey, for the inspiration we all needed.
