Dedicated Convention of States South Dakota warriors honored for service

Published in Blog on September 28, 2020 by Jackie Rausch

Several members of the Convention of States South Dakota team were honored for their dedication during the state strategic planning meeting.

State Director Shirlee Meier presented District Captains Chris and Deanna Becket with the Convention of States Challenge Coin. The coin has an image of George Mason (considered the Founder behind the Article V convention process) on one side and the COS logo on the other. Only 300 coins were minted when the organization was founded.

"The Challenge Coin recipients are resilient, in it for the long haul," said Mark Meckler, co-founder of Convention of States. "I love that you two are a couple working together for the cause. Servant leadership style and a dedication to the long-term commitment make you two a perfect set to receive the Challenge Coin."

The Beckets have been active leaders in the COS South Dakota group for six years. They are examples of how this movement is a long-term game and takes dedication and patience. The Beckets will receive the Challenge Coins along with a signed certificate from the founders of the Convention of States organization.

Another family was also recognized for their efforts. Harvey and Velva Fitzgerald have become a true power-couple for the COS grassroots army. Harvey is a District Captain, and Velva volunteers as a State Information Analyst.

The Fitzgeralds spent the summer attending various local events to promote the Convention of States movement and educate the public about Article V. They have collected nearly 2,500 signed petitions this summer.

Along with their daughter Jackie Rausch--who volunteers as a State Videographer--these two were given Patriot Pins by Shirlee Meier for their active involvement.

"Every time we get a chance to promote this constitutional movement, it is rewarding," said Jackie. "We are all volunteers who want to see COS continue to grow in our great state. It is motivating to be recognized for the effort we are putting into the organization. It's an amazing team to be involved with."
