A couple dozen Delawareans showed up to talk Convention of States at a meeting in Wilmington last week. COS volunteer leader Tanya Hettler served as hostess in her lovely home, and she and team members offered goodies to welcome the guests.
Many of the attendees were petition signers, but some were completely new to COS. Several of those present were contacted due to Tanya's school board campaign in May. In spite of the fact that she did not prevail in the election, this demonstrates that civic engagement can create influence beyond a single role or effort.
State Grassroots Coordinator Ginny Watkins led the meeting with a discussion of the goals of the movement, the Article V process, and status of the effort in the First State.
"I don't spend a lot of time discussing the need for this movement," Ginny told me. "Most people who attend these meetings are already completely convinced that our federal government is out of control."
The meeting included a discussion of the role of the district captain and the need for other key leaders, especially a legislative liaison. The latter role needs to be filled by someone who is politically connected and able to help jumpstart the legislative process in Delaware.
Convention of States needs more than just petition signers. We need engaged patriots to take on active roles in spreading the message around the state and connecting with state legislators. How can you be involved? Check out our list of volunteer options and sign up today!
