The COS Delaware team particpated for the first time in a local parade on Sunday, May 15 when the Newark Memorial Day Parade took place. In past years this parade was held annually, but this was the first time back since the pandemic.
Sporting blue Team Delaware shirts, the COS volunteers carried flags and a brand-new banner identifying the group.
A special guest was Founding Father Col. George Mason, portrayed by Roger Watkins of Bear, husband of State Director Ginny Watkins. Dr. Michael Puskarewicz, District Captain from Wilmington, brought another special friend—his dog Sasha.
Dan Alvarez of Felton brought up the rear of the COS contingent in his 2007 Mercedes CLK350 convertible, decorated with Convention of States signs. Another downstater, Ben Cassell of Greenwood, took the opportunity to hand out palm cards introducing onlookers to the COS mission.
The event started with a memorial ceremony to honor America's fallen heroes, appropriately held on the Green in front of UD's Memorial Hall. From there the participants moved up South College Avenue, east on Main Street, and down Chapel Street.
Parades are a great way to give Convention of States public visiblity. More such events are happening throughout the state during the summer, so look for a team of COS patriots in a parade near you. Even better, come and join us!
