Christmas is a time when it is traditional to send greetings to family and friends.
And speaking of cards, the COS movement has discovered from experience that hand-written letters and cards are one of the most effective ways to connect with members of the legislature.
Given that the Delaware team is expecting to file our Article V resolution in the upcoming legislative session, it seems that right now is a particularly appropriate time to connect with our legislators, and a great way to do that is with holiday-themed cards.
To help encourage participation, New Castle County supporters were invited to a get-together at the lovely home of Ginny Watkins, State Grassroots Coordinator, in Bear. All the materials were provided: cards, envelopes, pens, stamps, as well as that all important element, white-out! There was also an easy way for participants to find out their legislators' names and addresses.
In addition to the standard COS holiday card, some custom cards had been designed to give the volunteers a range of options.
While writing their messages, those present enjoyed fellowship, breakfast goodies, and some lovely Christmas music. The result was a pile of notes to be sent out letting Delaware legislators know about Convention of States and urging their support of our resolution.
We expect that similar events will be held in other locations around the state. If you are unable to attend any of these, you are encouraged to send your own card to your legislator. Contact your district captain or Ginny Watkins if you need help determining who they are.
The address is easy:
Delaware State Senate OR
Delaware House of Representatives
Legislative Hall
411 E. Legislative Ave.
Dover, DE 19901
Be sure to address members of the House as "Reprepresentative" and members of the Senate as "Senator". The COS team can also provide some sample wording to help with writer's block.
Let's flood our legislators' offices with holiday cheer—and the message of COS!
