COSA September Outreach meeting honors their host

Published in Blog on September 25, 2023 by Ernie Borgoyne

At the September AZ Convention of States Action outreach meeting, we honored our host, Pastor David Deputy. He has graciously allowed us to use the facilities at Pima Canyon Church. As he presented the award, Kevin Fuhrman said, “Many churches are reluctant to host political events.”

“Can’t leave politics out of religion because politics is everywhere,” said Pastor David, who spoke about his recent experience in California and the gender laws they are trying to pass there that are an affront to religion.

Six previous attendees, eight new ones, and the COSA team members attended the meeting. Kevin Fuhrman, who presented a summary, Carole Wilson, Joeleen Williamson, Ernie Borgoyne, and Danielle Morgan, our new District Captain for AZ District 13.

Mock Convention is available online. It demonstrates how a Convention of States might happen, albeit in an abbreviated timeframe.

Speaking of time frames, there were many questions about how long proposals stay in effect. Some states, like Texas, have put sunset clauses in theirs. Arizona’s application does not, but we must remain vigilant to fight efforts to rescind it. Even the state ratification process can remain alive but dormant. The 27th Amendment, for example, was passed by Congress in 1789 and was finally ratified in 1992.

There were questions about the voting process and what COSA can do to fight fraud. This is a state issue and not something COSA is involved in, but other organizations, such as True the Vote are pushing for voting integrity.

One person was interested in knowing the background of how Arizona passed its application. This will be a subject for a future blog.
