There are still a few Virginia legislators who have some questions about the process of calling an Article V Convention of States.
Therefore, the plan for Virginia in 2018 is to pass our Delegate Selection and Limitation Resolution, (HJ 49, SJ 31) which will help pave the way for us to join the dozen states who have already called for a Convention of States.
The Delegate Selection and Limitation Resolution defines how many commissioners will represent Virginia at the Convention of States, and it sets the process for how they will be selected.
The resolution also limits the commissioners by requiring them to take an oath to follow the instructions given by the Virginia General Assembly or face perjury, a Class 5 felony in Virginia.
As you can see, our resolution has real teeth.
Please call your state legislators to tell them to co-sponsor or at least pledge their support for our resolution.
Then, join the Convention of States Virginia team at the state capitol for Rally Day, January 18, at 1:00pm at the capitol in Richmond.
Former Senator Jim DeMint, Senior Advisor for Convention of States, will speak on how we will use Article V of the Constitution to rein in the federal leviathan. The COS Virginia leadership team will be leading the activities.
