While most Americans are distracted by the headlines, rhetoric, and hysteria that continues churning out of Washington, D.C., Convention of States supporters in Pennsylvania remain focused on the mission: Adding Pennsylvania to the list of states calling for an Article V convention. Last week, a dedicated group of supporters gathered from all four corners of the Commonwealth in the Harrisburg Capitol building for a COS Surge Day.
Dressed in their COS gear, eager volunteers and smiling supporters rallied under the beautiful Main Rotunda of the historic Pennsylvania Capitol building to spread the COS message. In addition to the gathered supporters, legislators, staffers, and onlookers passing by felt the presence of the COS movement.
The rally was introduced by State Director Chet Jack, who reminded attendees why they were there: to engage legislators, to enjoy camaraderie with like-minded patriots, and to exercise the responsibilities of a freedom-loving citizen, all with a smile and a hopeful attitude. Chet and Associate Director Steve Patten then presented the well-deserved Pennsylvania “Volunteer of the Year” award to Matt Zale. Matt has been a long-time volunteer and a critical member of the PA state leadership team.
The rally continued with remarks from Senate Prime Sponsor Cris Dush, who thanked supporters for their tireless commitment and sacrifices for the important effort to call an Article V convention. The rally in the Main Rotunda concluded with some encouraging words from COS Senior Advisor Rick Santorum, who spoke about how an Article V convention would make what many see as temporary fixes in Washington, permanent solutions.
After the rally concluded, volunteers dispersed throughout the Capitol to hand-deliver over 250 information packets to legislators and staffers. Additionally, Rick Santorum and State Leaders met with numerous key Senators & Representatives to urge support of the currently introduced resolution now in the House State Government Committee.
Overall, it was a well-organized, encouraging, and productive Surge Day in PA. While many Americans turn their attention to the drama of Federal politics or hope that Washington will fix itself, the dedicated and focused Pennsylvania Patriots remain steadfast in their commitment to the mission at hand.
