In a first-ever event, Convention of States Idaho hosted a picnic for volunteers and friends of COS.
But this was no ordinary picnic.
Since Idaho is a vast state, three picnics were held simultaneously on September 29th in Idaho Falls, Eagle, and Coeur d'Alene.
Patriots from all over the state gathered to meet one another, enjoy some shared food and games, and learn more about Convention of States and what we are doing in Idaho.
The picnic was well-attended in each area, with patriots eager to learn what they could do to help Idaho pass the COS resolution in the coming legislative session starting in January.
Many signed the petition, wrote hand-written letters to their legislators, and offered to volunteer and spread the word to their network of friends.
Over 11,000 Idahoans have signed the Convention of States petition and that number continues to grow. Long-time volunteer, Brian Gross, is amazed at the growth he has seen in such a short time.
"A couple years ago, I never would have imagined we would have this many people at an event like this. We've never had an event as big as this," he said.
Brian, a veteran and current contractor to the federal government, shared why he is involved with Convention of States, “I have a lot of concerns with regards to the constant brinkmanship and chaos emanating from Washington, D.C. More specifically, I have always been concerned about the national debt, but it was never an issue I felt like I had any control over…at least not until I heard about an Article V Convention of States."
As a father, Brian is especially sensitive to the country he will be leaving for his kids. "As someone who recently paid off all his student loans, I feel it is very important for us as a nation to free ourselves from the yoke of fiscal irresponsibility our leaders in Washington have placed on us and especially future generations. I believe amendments proposed by an Article V convention of states are the only way to accomplish this and that is why I am fighting for Idaho to join the cause.”
