The National Day of Prayer and America's Need for Revival

Published in Blog on May 22, 2024 by Sam Duerkop

On May 2nd, over 100 patriots from several states gathered in Kingston, Massachusetts, for the National Day of Prayer. Attendees from Convention of States, Patriot Academy, and a dozen or more local churches came together to call on the name of the Lord on behalf of our nation. This encouraging event was filled with incredible worship, great speakers, and moving prayer.

Worship included songs such as "Lift Up the Word – Light Up the World," specifically written for and the theme of this year's event, in addition to "God Bless America," and "How Great Thou Art."

Several speakers spoke about America’s godly founding, God’s providence, and more. Prayers were offered for our country, leaders, families, unity among believers, and the need for faith, truth, and civic training in education.

One highlight that everyone loved was hearing from Leo and Nancy Martin from the Jenney Interpretive Centre in nearby Plymouth, whose mission is to teach the truth about America’s Christian founding. Leo and Nancy spoke about the influence of the pilgrims on our country, and the need for America to return to God.

A second highlight was hearing Patriot Academy Regional Director Toni Shuppe’s passionate testimony about homeschooling and how vital it is for parents to be involved in the education of their children.

A third highlight was when, earlier in the day, a small group met at the National Monument to the Forefathers in Plymouth to talk, enjoy fellowship, and pray before the big event.

This Monument was created to remember the principles that the Pilgrims brought with them to America. At the top of the monument, Faith is depicted as a woman with her right hand pointing up towards God and her left hand holding the Bible. She has a star on her head, indicating that her wisdom comes from above. Below Faith are the characters of Morality, Law, Education, and Liberty. The character of faith shows that for a nation to succeed it must trust in God. The four characters below Faith are also vital to a nation's success.

National Monument to the Forefathers scholar Michelle Gallagher expertly highlighted these truths to everyone in attendance at the event, describing them as the Matrix of Liberty. These are the principles required for liberty and without them, a nation crumbles. We need to renew an understanding of these vital principles of faith, morality, law, education, and liberty in our nation. These are the principles for which attendees prayed.

This year's National Day of Prayer gathering emphasized the need for a revival in our nation and God’s providence to heal our land. America is in a very dark place and needs a rekindled trust in God and morality, along with an understanding of the principles found in the National Monument to the Forefathers. I pray that each of us will share these things with those around us!
