Special thanks to Jamie Dawn & Ronald Matte of the Michigan Leadership Group for providing their space tonight.
At the COS Debate in Brownstown, Michigan, approximately 40 people attended. The event started right on time at 7pm and we began with a prayer and special tribute to the devastating loss of the daughter of Michigan Leadership Group’s (MLG) founders, Ron & Jamie Matte.
After the Pledge of Allegiance, Russ Morey (DC for districts MI-17/53/54/55) provided an introduction and outlined the Mission and Goal of the COS movement.
Rob Borer, MI Events Coordinator, presented the “Introduction to Convention of States Action” presentation. The formal presentation concluded at 7:40pm. Then, we had a productive Q&A session afterwards, with several people bringing a fair number of comments and questions to the group.
This Town Hall was eye-opening for several participants who had not yet fully understood the goals and mission of Convention of States.
Two individuals, clearly against the COS movement, attempted to filibuster the Q&A session. They were allowed to speak, but one had to be cut off when she refused to stop talking and allow other participants to ask questions.
After the Q&A session, several more attendees approached COS representatives with engaging and insightful questions.
We obtained 7 signed petitions, including 5 volunteer applicants. Many others did not sign petitions, as they were previous petition signers. This event was extremely worthwhile. The facility was cleaned and cleared by 9:45pm.
I encourage all to volunteer–there are a variety of opportunities depending on your available time, skills, and interests. Check them out here
