Convention of States Nebraska is hosting a town hall in Support of Legislative Resolution 6 (LR6) on January 7, 2018 at 2:30pm in the Price Room of the Beatrice Public Library.
Senator Steve Halloran is the featured speaker, and a Q&A session will immediately follow his remarks. Senator Roy Baker is invited to attend the town hall.
LR6 calls for an Article V Convention of States for the purpose of proposing constitutional amendments that limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints, and set term limits for federal officials.
Joe Stephans, State Director for Convention of States Nebraska, stated, “Solutions for solving America’s challenges are not going to come from inside the beltway, but rather from citizens and the states. Nebraskans are asking our legislators to take a stand against the lack of real solutions from DC. The COS Nebraska team looks forward to 2018 and passing LR6 with the help of Senator Baker. The refusal to support or vote for cloture is unacceptable. It is time Nebraska stands up to the status quo in Washington and pass the LR6—the Convention of States resolution.”
Article V of the Constitution provides for two different ways to propose amendments to the Constitution. The first way is by the Congress. The second way is for two-thirds of the states (34) to pass a resolution applying for a convention under a specific request.
Once called, it would take three-fourths of the states to ratify any proposed amendment to the Constitution.
