Convention of States Filed in Hawaii Senate!

Hawaii's state legislative webpage shows the most recent Convention of States application (Senator Concurrent Resolution 36) filed in Hawaii's Senate.

Its official! Hawaii Senate Concurrent Resolution 36 calling for a Convention of States was filed in the Hawaii Senate on Friday, March 2.

The resolution urges Congress formally call a convention in which the states may consider and propose amendments that impose fiscal, jurisdictional, and term limitations on the federal government and its officials.  

Six senators signed on to this year's resolution in Hawaii's upper chamber. Among the signatures on the document were two new names.

 

Senator Mike Gabbard District 20: Kapolei, Makakilo, and parts of Ewa and Waipahu. Senator Gabbard is the primary introducer of this year's resolution, just as he was in 2018 and 2017. He chairs the Agriculture and Environment committee. His district has 182 petition signers, well over the Hawaii Senate district average of 144.

 

 

 

Senator Donovan Dela Cruz District 22: Mililani Mauka, Waipio Acres, Wheeler, Wahiawa, and Whitmore Village. Senator Dela Cruz is a new sponsor and introducer for Convention of States. He is Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee. His district has 143 petitions signers.

 

 

 

 

Senator Breene Harimoto District 16: Pearl City, Pearl Ridge, Momilani, Aiea Heights, Royal Summit. This returning introducer has been a steadfast supporter of Convention of States for three years. He is vice chair of the Transportation committee and has 144 petition signers in his district. 

 

 

Senator Kurt Fevella District 19, Ewa Beach, Ocean Point, Iroquois Point and Ewa by Gentry. This new senator and first-time co-sponsor has the highest number of petition signers (204) in any Senate district.  

 

 

 

 

Senator Gill Riviere District 23: Kaneohi, Ka'a'wa, Laie, Kahuku, Heleiwa, Waiawa, Schofield Barracks, Kunia. This third year co-sponsor has 158 petition signers living in his district.  

 

 

 

Senator Glenn Wakai District 15 Kalihi, Mapunapuna, Airport, Salt Lake, Aliamanu, Foster Village, Hickam, Pearl Harbor. This third-year co-sponosr is vice chair of Public Safety, Intergovernmental and Military Affairs Committee. He has 157 petition signers in his district.
