The 2023 Meat In fired up all over Colorado last weekend! The third weekend of March marks the festivities to feature how local livestock and agriculture serves the state.
In fact, this began in 2021 when Governor Jared Polis declared March 20th as MeatOut Day. He was encouraging a day of vegetarianism or veganism.
The agriculture, restaurant and other food industries in the state countered the attempt with a Colorado Meat In and it has become an annual event in communities all over our state.
Convention of States was able to set up tables at four Meat In locations for COS petition signing!
In the Northwest, our State Director, Laura Neimeister led the Mesa County Meat In. They got 47 petitions signed and educated a lot of interested people about Article V and our Resolution.
"This is my favorite part of this job. Meeting people and going to these events." Laura loves people and enjoys educating our state about the fundamentals of our organization.
The Meat in was held in Grand Junction by MCCA and partnered with the Farm Bureau, Mesa County Cattlewomen’s Association, Woolgrowers Association, FFA and 4-H.
In the Northeast, District Captain Wayne Walvoord drove to Bennett and set up there. It was windy but that didn't stop the people from showing up, riding the mechanical bull and eating some great food.
Wayne was excited to report on his findings.
"The Farm’s Outpost Store has fresh beef, eggs, t-shirts, and other fun stuff for sale. The Ranch supports their Animal Rescue Center with the added income. They also conduct educational activities for kids and adults on 'Farm to Table' promoting why our Farmers and Ranchers are so important for the foods we eat."
The Bennett Meat In was held by Tuff's Ranch to raise money for Tuff's Animal Rescue.
Also in the Northeast, our Veterans Coalition Director Art Sickler went to the Livestock Exchange in Brush. He brought two other Veteran volunteers with him, Tim Stewart and John Szymanski. The Livestock Exchange was giving out free hot dogs and hamburgers to guests between 11am-2pm so everyone got to eat and our Vets got 38 new petition signatures supporting Convention of States. They also met up with COS Resolution sponsor District 63 Representative Richard Holtorf.
In the Southeast, District Captain Ron Davenport, District Captain Allen Aubert and their team were able to get a picture with 2023 COS Resolution sponsors District 35 Senator Rod Pelton and District 47 Representative Ty Winter.
The Crowley County Meat In was in Ordway and activities were organized by local FFA members.
Thank you to our State Director, our Veterans Coalition Director, our three District Captains and our several Convention of States active volunteers for their efforts on March 18th across Colorado!
The truth about Convention of States gets out to more people when more people put in some time and effort to educate Colorado- great job!
