January 10th, Surge Day 2024 was the opening day of the Colorado Legislative Season. It was a great opportunity for volunteers to "see how the sausage was made" as our Legislative Liaison, John Graboski remarked. COS Volunteers are engaged American patriots who understand the diligence and patience required to build a grassroots movement, especially here in Colorado.
We attended the Colorado House of Representatives. The events were set in motion with the grand display expected of a State House with such magnificent design. The Convention of States volunteers sat across the entire south side of the upper public seating. It was a great opportunity for new attendees to witness it all.
This one, however, was different because there was a pro-Palestinian (Hamas) outburst that disrupted and interrupted opening session. The Speaker of the House, Julie McCluskie stayed quiet and made no comment during this disrespectful and anti-semitic display by the loud and disorderly group.
Security finally escorted them out after about four minutes and then the session resumed. Then, the Speaker of the House was supposed to invite Representative Richard Holtorf to introduce our Convention of States group to stand up but she cut opening session short and closed the session.
Despite all of the partisanship and anarchy, Convention of States was focused on being seen at the Capitol and getting our job done. We delivered our newsletter along with over 500 letters from constituents who live all across Colorado. We made deliveries to all 100 State Senators and Representatives.
This was managed by the Legislative Liaison Team John Graboski, Frank Vaughn and Mike Forbis and the Letter Writing Campaign was organized by the Colorado COS Veterans Coalition led by Director Art Sickler along with Lowell Harris, Lynn Ray and the rest of the amazing COS Vets Team, the largest COS volunteer team in Colorado.
The attendees were a very small percentage of the massive 54,000 petition signers in our state. Imagine if we could multiply or increase exponentially the presence of Convention of States in Colorado.
We all got to meet new people, make new contacts and grow the possibilities of our grassroots reach across the state. That is our number one goal at Convention of States: to grow the biggest, most active group of grassroots activists the nation has ever seen.
Our volunteers had a mission and they made it happen. Watch this video to hear their message. Thank you Colorado!
