Colorado author Dan Meyer reflects on the Convention of States Project in light of the debt crisis

Published in Blog on April 04, 2018 by Aaron Christopher Dukette

Local Colorado author Dan Meyer shares his thoughts on the Convention of States Project and Article V, elaborated in his book, Upside DownHow We Can Avoid Becoming the United States of China:

The absolute necessity of calling an Article V Convention of States is verified within the context of my 26 ½ year career with General Motors that taught me precisely how corporations and governments succeed and what makes them fail.

Mature, aging, tired companies—and governments—get fat, complacent, and lazy, while losing sight of their initial mission and focus. Then, instead of relying on the wisdom and expertise of their field sales and service force (in the case of our government, the States) to ascertain where they’re missing the mark in meeting customers’ demands, corporations try to centralize, save themselves into a profit, lose contact with their own consumers, and ultimately fail.

This is usually exacerbated by generations of corporate nepotism, as the children and grandchildren of corporate executives are hired into positions for which they have no qualification.

Governments experience exactly the same route of decline. In our case each generation of We the People has become more lazy, complacent, and apathetic. Self-serving politicians, their children, and grandchildren, take advantage of the lack of natural checks and balances against governmental tyranny that should be provided by an engaged, intelligent, informed population.

These generations of self-anointed “career politicians” empower themselves through all manner of unnecessary and burdensome regulatory agencies and government hand-outs which are centralized in Washington instead of the states.

Just like the four silos of GM’s RenCen, those agencies become little silos of unelected, unregulated, self-serving power with unlimited funding and no accountability to The People. So instead of empowering States to let their populations decide what they want and need, central government just assumes power with which they cannot be trusted as The Swamp is filled with self-serving life-time political elites.

Over time, Thomas Jefferson’s greatest fear has been realized as OUR central government spins out of control while bribing We the People with our own money. All of the above is exactly “upside down” from the spirit and intent of OUR Constitution.

Armed with knowledge gained through the school of hard knocks, early retirement from GM at fifty-three years of age afforded me the time to express my concerns for our nation to various members of Congress—concerns about the direction of an increasingly out-of-control centralized government operating with unlimited funding; operating in spite of The People it was created to serve.

The silly responses I received from our Congress were nothing more than self-serving partisan boilerplate. Due to the feeling of helplessness that ensued, coupled with my personal disgust with the previous two administrations, I became a Democrat in 2008 so I could work for candidate Obama’s Iowa campaign only to be disappointed again as the succession of lies and deceit from the previous two administrations continued unabated.

It became obvious that choosing between Republican and Democrat was tantamount to having to choose between the lesser of two evils.

My complete frustration and concern over what was rapidly becoming a hopeless tangle of self-serving politicians and special interests in Washington moved me to spend over five years writing Upside Down. The Preface to Upside Down explains that, thanks to the tyranny of a Big Brother government-media oligarchy, We the People find ourselves in the midst of our second civil war.

The recent assault on Senator Rand Paul in his own yard is one of a nearly infinite number of demonstrations of how bitterly divided our formerly “United” States has become. Our lying Big Brother government-media oligarchy is succeeding in dividing and conquering US as the lack of truth creates warring factions within our currently Divided States of America. The bitter in-fighting will only escalate until the truth about who and what is behind attempts to divide, conquer, and destroy US is exposed and understood. The only question is will We the People survive intact?

The truth within Upside Down is verified with each passing day. From every corner of our biased media, the divide-and-conquer techniques become increasingly obvious. The tragedy that is the ongoing battle for power between Republicans and Democrats who have promoted themselves from public servants to the public’s masters result in our becoming the Divided States of America. The major networks and their 24/7/365 propaganda-spreading offspring defend and support (aid and abet?) Big Government Democrats, while Fox and all “conservative” media want US to believe Republicans walk on water.

I wrote Upside Down because it was becoming obvious that the dark art of politics—issuing lies and deceit to promote self-serving agendas—ruled our daily lives as “news” organizations became twenty-four hour-a-day propaganda dispensaries. It was becoming obvious some of this propaganda closely resembled Orwell’s Big Brother nightmare wherein “truth” became whatever legitimized Big Brother tyranny!

The absolute necessity for an Article V Convention of States is also verified by the eighty million independent-minded citizens in our formerly “United” States who are completely fed up with every election being not about electing a highly qualified, competent public servant, but having to vote for the lesser of two evils—evidence of our hopelessly broken two “party” establishment.

“United we stand, divided we fall”. The Swamp has such a stranglehold on our government that instead of government of, by, and for The People, We now have government in spite of The People. Unless We take immediate action, our Constitution and rule of law are threatened. All of our human freedoms and liberties that our Constitution confirms are granted by God, not man, may go the way of the brontosaurus.

If We the People want to transition from our current divided state to our formerly “United” States, We have to take back control of our own government, and the only way to do that is by calling an Article V Convention of States.
