Coburn: Congress is stealing from young people. Here's how we stop it.

Published in Blog on July 20, 2018 by Article V Patriot

Republicans are aiming to pass a bill that would make permanent the individual, family, and small business tax cuts they passed in December.

But while most Americans support giving the feds a smaller chunk of their paycheck, there’s one big problem: Republicans haven’t identified any spending cuts to offset these new tax breaks. If their plan moves ahead as-is, the Congressional Budget Office has warned that the tax bill could significantly raise the already-massive deficit and debt.

Career politicians are at the heart of the problem. As former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn noted on Fox News, career politicians don’t care about the long-term health of the country. They’re focused on one thing (reelection), and they’ll never support cutting programs that benefit potential voters.

Until we call and convene a Convention of States, these D.C. careerists will continue to make decisions based on campaign advantages rather than the good of the country as a whole.

Sen. Coburn left Washington and joined the Convention of States Project because he realized he could never change D.C. from inside the beltway. Only the people and the states can save future generations from financial hardship, and over 3 million have already joined the effort.
