Citizen activists gather in Annapolis

Published in Uncategorized on February 06, 2020 by Stephen Patten

The Convention of States Maryland team recently gathered for the second annual Citizen Action Day in Annapolis.

Over 50 supporters joined together to learn about our efforts and share their support with their state representatives.

The day was a resounding success! Local and national COS leadership engaged with supporters from all over Maryland. The day began with State Director Steve Patten, who introduced the COS Maryland leadership team.

Matthew Rehberg, a COS Maryland District Captain, then addressed the many supporters in attendance with his story of how and why he is a citizen activist and very proud volunteer for Convention of States.

The team then took questions and explained the current status of our resolution in the General Assembly as well as what’s happening with COS at a national level.

After a brief break for lunch, COS Maryland Legislative Liaison Ce Harrison introduced our lead sponsor Delegate Mark Fisher.

By this point in the day, approximately 50 legislators and staffers had joined the group to hear Delegate Fisher speak about COS and how it is the only way to "... free Marylanders from the crushing weight of federal intervention in our state and the tax burden imposed by federal mandates upon the citizens of Maryland."

Following Delegate Fisher’s talk, the COS Maryland team and the supporters broke into small groups and walked the halls of both the Delegate House Office building and the two Senate Office buildings.

Supporters visited their legislators’ offices and expressed their support of COS directly to their representatives. COS supporters became citizen activists engaging with their legislators.

The day was designed to bring legislators into contact with their constituents, to have supporters interact with COS volunteers, to have constituents influence their legislators, and to spread the word about COS.

Maryland citizens are getting the word out about COS, and our numbers are growing. Citizen Action Day was a resounding success. The legislators' interest and attention to COS was inspiring and demonstrates the affect an engaged and activated citizenry can have on their state representatives.
