Can we keep our Republic?

Published in Blog on June 29, 2022 by LeRoy E Cossette

Both Democrats and Republicans throughout the country have had no problem seeing those who participated in the January 6th protest (a.k.a. Insurrection) rot in jail or forced to plead to ridiculous charges. Maybe, just maybe, they could be right.

The problem is, many of these individuals spent a year or more in jail without being charged with any crime or allowed to appear in court for the purpose of being formally charged and given the opportunity to post bail. In communist countries, these people are referred to as political prisoners.

Then, as if the unconstitutional treatment of these individuals was not enough (no doubt with the help of embedded government agitators), we have had to endure the one-sided political witch hunt proceedings of the unselect committee.

All perpetuated by elected members of Congress – members who all took a sworn oath to support and defend our Constitution and the God-given rights afforded to every citizen of this nation under that Constitution.

It's unclear if these members of Congress have forgotten what they learned about our Constitution, went to government sponsored public schools where learning about our Constitution was not afforded, or are outright corrupt and care little about the rights of citizens.

Any elected official should be well-versed in our Constitution's amendments before ever being allowed to take their oath to office.

The 6th Amendment of the Constitution clearly reads:

“In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.”

All the individuals who were and are still incarcerated, and all the individuals who have been alleged or accused of participating or inciting the January 6 incident, have been failed by the very individuals who took that oath of office to protect their constitutional rights.

No matter the crime, no matter the politics, no matter how you or any individual in this country feels about the severity of the crime, no American must ever be denied their constitutional rights. To do so begins the erosion of our constitutional Republic.

Remember, in order for our Republic and God-given freedoms to survive, our constitutional rights must survive.

If we’re to assure a free Republic for our grandchildren and great grandchildren, then it is imperative that everyone becomes even more engaged. We cannot sit back while our Republic disintegrates. As Benjamin Franklin so famously stated, “A Republic if you can keep it.”

More than anytime since the Civil War our resolve to keep our constitutional Republic is being gravely tested. We must not falter, because if we do, there will be no turning back. So, can we keep it?

You can make a difference through your hard work, determination, and complete support of the Convention of States movement. We need more petition signers and volunteers, and what better time than the 4th of July to make a strong push to this end.
