The Republican National Convention begins today as Donald Trump and his supporters make their most important bid to unify the party.
Republicans have been divided ever since the New York businessman became the party’s presumptive candidate, and there still appears to be a strong coalition looking to somehow unseat Trump during the proceedings. American voters are equally divided when it comes to the presidential race -- Trump’s success came at the hands of millions of supportive voters while his favorability ratings within his own party have been historically low.
The RNC might be a mess, but the American people have found a different solution to the problems they see in Washington: an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States can do what Republicans have promised (but failed) to do for years -- shrink the size of the federal government, limit its power, and return the decision-making authority back to the people and the states. A Convention of States is called by state legislatures and has the power to propose amendments to the Constitution. These amendments can limit the Supreme Court’s power, force Congress, to balance its budget, and impose term limits on federal officials.
This year’s RNC can’t fix the most important problems plaguing our country -- no matter who becomes the official nominee. But, by returning power to the people and the states, a Convention of States can.
