California blogger joins Convention of States to restore constitutional republic

Published in Blog on April 12, 2018 by Debra J Oresko

The following was written by Bill Grill of Santee, California.

When I was a kid, I would listen to my grandfather tell stories of how life was during the early to mid-1900s.

He would regale me with stories of the Great Depression, World War II, and the 1950s. He told me that during times of challenge, Americans always pulled together to work through the difficulties, that the greatest thing about America is its love of liberty and freedom.

Americans have, and will always, pay the price for liberty because of the respect and admiration they have for the Founding Fathers and a government of the people established with the Constitution. I considered my grandfather a wise gentleman who knew the value of the freedom we have inherited from the sacrifice of our forefathers.

The stories my grandfather told me inspired my love of history, my country, and the Constitution. That patriotism was deepened while I was in the Boy Scouts. Scouting taught me that service to God, my country, and my fellow Americans is the greatest calling we can strive to do.

This inspiration was the driving force for me to achieve Eagle Scout during our country’s Bicentennial in 1976. This early time, more than any other, shaped my life and taught me the importance of standing up for my beliefs and fighting for the liberty guaranteed to us in the Constitution.

Now, the reason I am telling you this is because our Constitution is under attack. Our constitutional republic is in danger of falling into a regime of socialism. The division displayed among our current representatives has come to the point where the people must now take action. That action is an Article V Convention of States.

The Founders were wise. They knew that there could come a time when the government of the people would fall into crisis. They wanted the people to have a way to exercise their power of self-governance through their state legislatures. They wrote Article V into the Constitution.

It says, “The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on Application of the Legislatures of two Thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments...”

Simply stated, Article V gives the people the ability to amend the Constitution and make law for the people’s benefit. It is a guarantee that our federal government does not have absolute power over the people.

Congress has reached a point of dysfunction. We are divided, and our elected representatives cannot agree on how to fix this crisis. The time has come for ‘We The People of the United States’ to stand together. It is for this reason that I support Convention of States.

We must put our government back on track for the benefit of the people. The biggest issues we face are career politicians, overregulation, and fiscal irresponsibility.  The time has come for the people to limit the number of terms our representatives can serve, limit the regulatory power, and demand that those representatives run our house in a fiscally responsible manner.

I have made this commitment of support, and I ask my readers to support the Convention and pass this on to their friends. We must remind our government that they work for us and that the Founders meant for the people to be in control of our country.

Sign the Convention of States petition. Ask your state representatives to support this grassroots effort. God bless you, and may God bless and preserve the United States of America.
