Once again, time for filing federal income tax is upon us. Increasingly I find myself wondering what, exactly, am I getting out of my personal annual donation to the federal government?
You might find yourself wondering the same thing. And, unless you are in this country illegally, reading this in your hotel room on your free cell phone, I bet you are drawing the same conclusion as I: absolutely nothing!
Even worse, because of consistently unchecked federal spending, the government’s inept response of printing more worthless money, and the inevitable inflation in which we are all now drowning, the income tax that we pay on the state level is becoming less beneficial, too.
Unlike the federal government, the states can not print more money when the bills cannot be paid. While this is a good thing, it also means that the federal government’s lack of fiduciary responsibility hits the ordinary American from all sides.
One of the proposed amendments of the Convention of States Action would require an annually balanced federal budget without raising taxes. If this is something you feel like you can get behind, would you please take a moment to sign the petition? 19 out of the required 34 state legislatures have already joined. We would like to see New Mexico on that list very soon.
