As the Virginia General Assembly convenes, we look forward and back

Published in Blog on January 06, 2020 by Warren Wheeler

Within days of last November’s General Assembly elections, Convention of States Virginia’s leadership team and 12 District Captains met in Chester.

There was little to be cheerful about then. But now, with the 2020 legislative session set to convene on January 8, the political landscape is utterly transformed.

Elitist politicians caused an unprecedented political storm by promising to trample Virginians’ Second Amendment rights. Thousands upon thousands quickly reacted by descending upon their local governments.

In just 60 days, over 115 of Virginia’s counties, cities, and towns have declared themselves a sanctuary from the unconstitutional infringements of self-defense rights that these out-of-touch legislators are promoting.

Our teams of volunteers are reporting as much as 100 percent increases in year-on-year numbers of COS petitions gathered.

Mark Your Calendar: On Monday, January 20 (a federal holiday), COS volunteers will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Second Amendment advocates in Richmond. Come and help us spread the COS message of saving liberty and defending self-governance through an Article V Convention of States. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for details on where and when we will gather that day.

At that same November meeting, State Director Dennis Denton presented Patriot Pins to six volunteers who excelled in their level of commitment and achievement in 2019.

Congratulations to District Captains Trevor Wells (HD54/Spotsylvania) and Karen Greenhalgh (HD85/Virginia Beach), Regional Captains Matt Weeks (Richmond) and John Dahmen (Piedmont), Statewide Legislative Liaison Lisa Creeden, and Statewide Grassroots Coordinator Nancy Koenig.

Patriot Pin Awardees (L-R): Trevor Wells, Matt Weeks, presenter State Director Dennis Denton, John Damen, Karen Greenhalgh, Lisa Creeden, Nancy Koenig.

Thanks to dedicated volunteers like those recognized here, our 2019 outreach was the most effective ever.

With the state experiencing a political conflagration in 2020, we need all hands on deck on January 20. Follow us on Facebook for event details.
