Article V fight still alive in South Dakota

Published in Blog on February 07, 2021 by Jackie Rausch

South Dakota warriors for the Convention of States turned out in record numbers this month at the capitol.

More than 100 people from across the state gathered in Pierre on Monday, February 1, to support the COS resolution at a committee hearing. This crowd is reflective of the growing momentum for the grassroots army in the state.

During the month of January, more than 900 South Dakota residents joined the movement by signing the COS petitions. More and more requests for town halls and information continue to flood into our District Captains each week.

The resolution was shut down in the House State Affairs Committee by a vote of 6-7. However, the patriots of South Dakota are not giving up.

The COS South Dakota leadership team has worked with our legislative sponsors and has introduced the resolution on the other side of the chamber. The Senate State Affairs Committee will be hearing the resolution (SJR502) in the coming weeks.

While there was an outstanding showing for the first committee hearing, leaders in the state COS team are not done recruiting more neighbors to get on board.

Another town hall meeting is scheduled for Saturday, February 13, in Phillip, and it will be streamed online. Click here for details.

Once the agenda with SJR502 is confirmed, there will be information sent out to all petition signers and COS volunteers in the state.

Until then, be sure to write to your state senators and let them know you want them to support this upcoming resolution.
