COS Arizona at the Apache County Fair

Published in Blog on September 16, 2019 by Michael Jason Alexander

On September 4-6, Convention of States Arizona State Director Allen Wegele single-handedly manned our COS booth at the Apache County Fair in St. Johns up in the “badlands” of Northern Arizona.

Despite a slow-moving low pressure system that threatened to bring rain to the plateaus across the region, the weather remained beautiful, and turnout at the fair was high.

The Apache County Fair features exhibitors from all around Arizona and brings in visitors from southern Utah, southern Colorado, and northwestern New Mexico.

It ranks among the largest 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America) events for our youth in the Southwest, with separate shows for dairy cattle, beef cattle, swine, goat, rabbit, and poultry.

Appealing to the older crowd were rodeo and barrel-racing events, a fashion revue, a mud run, and a cutest baby contest, all held against a backdrop of down-home country music and carnival festivities.

It was the perfect environment to gather signatures on our Convention of States petition.

All told, Allen reported 25 new petition signers, with more expected at a Freedom Rally to be held downstate the following weekend, so stay tuned.
