As conservatives gear up for CPAC, Republicans voters are hoping the conference will galvanize a Congress that has so far done nothing but “flail and fail.”
Despite majorities in both the House and the Senate, the GOP has not passed any significant legislation regarding Obamacare or tax cuts, the two big-ticket items they promised voters they would pass immediately.
Their actions have caused some to wonder whether they might be too scared to take any political risks. Others speculate that Republicans don’t want any real change to take place in the nation’s capital. They’re too worried about getting reelected to rock the boat.
In either case, it’s time for the people and the states to take control. An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that fix many of the biggest problems at the federal level.
These amendments can limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, clarifying what Congress and the White House can control (hint: not healthcare).
A Convention of States can also propose constitutional amendments that bring relief to our nation’s struggling finances, shrinking the debt as well as taxes by forcing the government to cut spending.
The Founders didn’t leave the states and the people without a recourse if the federal government grew too large and powerful. Now is the time to use Article V of the Constitution.
