Americans unite in the midst of GOP controversy

Published in Blog on July 17, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

Presidential candidate Donald Trump told ABC news over the weekend that he doesn’t believe the Republican party has to be unified in order for him to win the election. "Does it have to be unified? I'm very different than everybody else, perhaps, that's ever run for office. I actually don't think so," he said.

The comment comes amidst growing controversy surrounding the New York businessman, as Republican leaders in Congress publicly oppose or fail to endorse their party’s presumptive candidate. Trump’s policies (as well as his demeanor) have divided Republicans since he first announced his candidacy. Since then the cracks have only deepened as House Republican leader Paul Ryan -- the GOP’s highest ranking official -- refused to endorse Trump last week.

The circus in D.C. may be fracturing, but the American grassroots are more unified than ever. Republicans have traditionally supported the Constitution and limited government, but recently they’ve shown themselves to be untrustworthy and incapable of defending either. That’s why We the People have given up party labels and begun to support the only solution that can effectively limit the power of the federal government: a Convention of States.

An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that do three things: impose fiscal restraints on Congress, mandate term limits for federal officials, and limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.

Washington, D.C., is coming apart at the seams. In the frenzy to endorse or not endorse Trump, federal officials have forgotten the most important endorsement they can give -- one that fights for the liberty of the American people. So Americans from coast to coast have decided to fight for their own liberty, and they’re doing it in every state by pushing for an Article V Convention of States.
