“America is back,” President Donald Trump declared in a joint address to Congress 42 days into his second term.
Flanked by Vice President JD Vance and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, the commander-in-chief celebrated “the common sense revolution that is now, because of us, sweeping the entire world.”
Relishing his “swift and unrelenting action to usher in the greatest and most successful era in the history of our country,” he blasted the opposition party for protesting his many achievements.
“Democrats sitting before me, for just this one night, why not join us in celebrating so many incredible wins for America?” he joked.
Within minutes of starting, Trump was drowned out by loud protests from Democrats, forcing Johnson to intervene, restore order, and call for the removal of Al Green after the Texas representative heckled Trump.
Watch:
Throughout the speech, Green’s colleagues hoisted paddles with messages including “SAVE MEDICAID” and “MUSK STEALS,” while others wore shirts with the words “No kings live here” and "Resist." Another Democratic member revealed she “walked out” to protest the president’s “lies,” “cheating,” and “stealing.”
Trump remained unfazed, forging ahead with a confident, patriotic, and often humorous speech.
Highlighting his administration’s historic successes in securing the border, ending DEI, exposing government waste, banning transgender ideology, and revitalizing the military, the 47th president appeared self-assured about the country’s future.
“America’s momentum is back, our spirit is back, our pride is back, our confidence is back, and the American Dream is surging bigger and better than ever before,” he bragged.
In another staple of the president’s joint address to Congress, Trump honored several special guests in the House gallery, including Marc Fogel, a recently released Russian detainee, the family of Laken Riley, and Corey Comperatore’s wife and daughters.
In one of the speech’s most touching moments, Trump made DJ Daniels, a 13-year-old cancer patient, an honorary Secret Service agent. (Proving Trump’s earlier point, Democrats refused to applaud.)
Watch:
Ending with a final patriotic hurrah and tribute to our national heritage, Trump promised the nation, “The Golden Age of America has only just begun. It will be like nothing that has ever been seen before.”
Despite the dramatic reaction from House Democrats, many others praised the president for his upbeat, confident tone. “I’ve never enjoyed a State of the Union this much,” said Convention of States President Mark Meckler. “My face hurts from smiling.”
Polling shows 69-76% of viewers had a positive reaction to the speech; 74% described it as "presidential" and "entertaining."
