A South Carolina mom’s lesson of liberty from a veteran and Convention of States patriot

Published in Blog on March 18, 2021 by Amy Hill

There are so many things that are priority to a mother: God, family, country, etc. The list is really too long and would actually break the internet if all of her priorities were listed.

I was a single mom for most of my adult life, and my kids were one of my top priorities. Now my grandkids are definitely at the top of my priority list.

Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s seemed like forever ago. It wasn’t a simpler time, but it seemed much less complicated. I was never interested in politics until the day the towers fell on September 11, 2001.

With the rest of the entire country, my heart dropped out of my chest, and I felt true fear for the first time. I always had loved this country for all that it afforded us, but I fell deeply in love with our country and the servicemen and women that immediately went to war to preserve our way of life after that horrific day. I will never forget their sacrifice that they so valiantly put forth.

After that devastating day, I began to notice how our liberties were being eroded. Yet, I still had no idea what to do about the state of our nation. It seemed bigger than me. It seemed as if I was too small and insignificant. I thought my duties and power stopped at voting.

With each election, I understood more and more that they just do not work. I remember watching Mark Levin one night, as he was speaking about Convention of States. I knew immediately that the concept was something to explore.

I started to understand that one person could really do something to effectively restore this great nation, along with a huge grassroots army of like-minded people.

That first night I read everything I could on the www.conventionofstates.com website. The Resources section was an eyeopener and gave me fresh hope for our nation’s future. I couldn’t believe the solution to the nation’s woes was in Article V all along.

I wondered how in the world I had missed that part of our Constitution in school: “…or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments…”

I continued my COS education. I learned how our forefathers knew that the federal government would one day get so completely drunk with power that they would encroach on every part of our lives. After all, if the European kings taught them anything, it was a lesson in stolen liberty.

I signed the COS petition and checked the volunteer box. It wasn’t long after that I got a call from another volunteer named Gene Soult. He became my mentor and dear friend.

Gene was a retired U.S. Navy serviceman and an exemplary veteran who continued to serve his country as a civilian. Gene was a man that unrelentingly loved God, his family, and this great nation. He was a fantastic mentor and very patient with my lack of political savvy.

I learned so much from Gene. He was indeed a true warrior fighting for this nation until his last breath. Greatly admired and never forgotten!

Gene taught me that I could peacefully fight to save this great republic using my gift of gab. He had encouraged me to present COS to anyone that would listen. I began presenting to groups, such as county council, town halls, friends, family, and anyone that would sit long enough for me to begin a conversation.

He introduced me to a whole army of COS patriots. Each had unique talents, but together they form a well-oiled machine for liberty.

Recently, I had the honor and privilege of presenting COS to the American Legion Post 12 in St. Matthews, South Carolina.

Those gentlemen are true patriots that fought hard for our country. Like Gene, they continue to serve this country in their civilian role, always valiantly serving the community and one another. Veterans have a special brotherhood.

For one hour I was honored to join them and present COS.

American Legion Post 12 exemplifies the true meaning of unrelenting patriotism and sacrifice. Everything I spoke about in regards to Convention of States, they knew and understood with a deep sense of pride.

Convention of States honors our veterans and their sacrifice by carrying the torch for liberty and making sure their sacrifice was not in vain.

After all, it’s only a republic if you can keep it. Join Convention of States. Let’s keep our republic.

Special thanks to American Legion, St. Matthews, Post 12, Steve Rech, Commander, and The American Legion Department of South Carolina, Robin Rucker, Vice Commander for inviting me to share Convention of States.
