A One of a Kind Constitution

Published in Blog on September 07, 2022 by LeRoy E Cossette

The Constitution of the United States of America is a unique self-governing idea. It is an idea which recognizes that people's rights are granted by God and not by government. An idea that recognizes that it is the people who grant rights to government and not the other way around.

A Constitutional Republic, such as our country, is managed by a federal government consisting of a House of Representatives and a Senate, judicial bodies, its people, and most importantly by the Constitution.

Our Constitution is the backbone of our country. It is a permanent contract between the government and "We the People," which can be altered through amendments when deemed essential.

While it is possible to add an amendment, the process is difficult. Two-thirds of the House of Representatives and the Senate must deem it necessary, followed by ratification by three-fourths of the existing states.

Further, our Constitution allows for the people, through their state legislators, to propose amendments. Under this process, two-thirds of the existing states must pass resolutions calling for the convening of the states for the purpose of proposing amendments.

Like Congress, proposed amendments must be ratified by three-fourths of the existing states.

Our Constitution further protects our God-given rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness from being abused by the government.

Our Constitution is truly unique and worthy of celebrating its inception and the Founding Fathers who dedicated their lives to ensuring our future as a nation.
