Delaware is hoping to bring the Convention of States Resolution before our legislature this session. This is the testimony that our State Director, Ginny Watkins, has written and will be sharing with them:
My name is Ginny Watkins and I urge you to support the Convention of States Resolution. It is my honor to serve as the State Director for the Delaware Convention of States team. Working collaboratively, our volunteer team has spent innumerable hours interacting with the public, gathering more than 10,000 petitions, and meeting with dozens of you to learn how we can help the voice of the people be heard.
Like everyone who volunteers for our cause, I have a personal motivation for my involvement. I feel driven to leave an America of greater freedom and opportunity to my 6 children and 14 grandchildren who are the love of my life.
From the beginning of our history, there has been a special quality shared by most Americans, a heart-cry to be free and self-governing. Americans want to be autonomous and empowered to enjoy our God-given rights.
Over the past 3 ½ years, our team has had the privilege of speaking with thousands of Delawareans and learning their perspectives on present-day life in our constitutional republic. Though some have voiced satisfaction or apathy toward their government, the vast majority have expressed feelings ranging from frustration to anger and from fear to hopelessness.
Their concerns include the out-of-control spending and debt, the elitist attitudes of federal politicians who accumulate power and wealth at the expense of their constituents, and the control that the federal government wields over almost every area of our lives.
Most Delawareans feel that the federal government has become increasingly unresponsive to the concerns of We the People. The Convention of States process was placed in our Constitution so that the sovereign states would rein in an undisciplined federal government – in such a time as this. Please take seriously your responsibility to represent the people and vote for the Convention of States Resolution.
