The Strike Force Team and its Mission

What is a Strike Force?

It is a group of supporters who are able and willing to show up for committee meetings and floor votes at the Missouri Capitol on short notice. When possible we also ask them to take the time to visit the Capitol on Opening Day and Surge Day (a Convention of States Missouri day dedicated to interacting with as many legislators as possible.)

The Convention of States Missouri Strike Force Team is also tasked with visiting our Capitol on a regular basis and attending committee meetings and floor votes. These will usually take place on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Because of how government operates we may sometimes provide short notice of upcoming meetings.

If you would like more information about joining the Strike Force, please contact Carol Hurley at carol.hurley@cosaction.com or (660) 621-0262.

Why is your help needed?

Many of our volunteers and supporters have commitments which prevent them from traveling to the Capitol on short notice and we would like our elected representatives to be aware of the fact that we are not going away just because Missouri has adopted the resolution to call an Article V convention of the states.

Because of the Covid pandemic all public access to the Capitol was limited in 2020 and much of the proposed legislation was put on hold. The result was that the 2021 legislative session was a whirlwind of activity. The Convention of States Missouri team was successful in getting the sunset clause on the resolution passed in 2017 rescinded. Otherwise, the resolution would have expired in May, 2022.

During the legislative session which begins in January, 2022 we hope to work on getting a bill passed which will define who chooses the commissioners, their required qualifications, and how they will represent Missouri at an Article V convention.

Once the 2022 session is opened, the bill described above will be assigned a number and the actual text will be available. We will be in touch with all our supporters with this information when it becomes available.

Strike Force Training:

We will train you and, whenever possible, a Legislative Liaison or other COS Missouri team member will be at the Capitol to assist you in meeting with legislators. We plan to be at all committee meetings and hearings. We know from experience that legislators pay more attention to a cause when there are supporters present.

You will also have the opportunity to meet other like-minded people and to learn more about how our state government operates and to help with our efforts towards calling a Convention of the States to propose amendments to the U.S. Constitution.

Physicians for COS

The diagnosis is clear.

We have a growing cancer today known as the Obamacare. As a result physicians are no longer free to practice medicine.

No profession feels the full force of the federal government more than physicians. The medical profession is the most highly regulated profession in the United States. The practice of medicine is controlled, taxed, and regulated to the point of being destroyed by the heavy hand of the federal government.

Physicians are told how to bill, how much to charge, and how to treat patients. They are mandated to use expensive electronic medical records. The federally enacted HIPPA (Health Information Privacy and Portability Act) makes the communication between physicians and atients burdensome, inefficient, and expensive. Every physician is required by federal mandate to register with the government to obtain an NPI (national provider identifier.) We are required by federal law to obtain and pay for a license to prescribe medication through the DEA, which is separate from our state licensure.

This heavy hand of government not only oversees the largest federal health bureaucracy ever created, but by extension reaches into every state, every city, and every small town to regulate how every licensed physician practices the art of medicine and how citizens obtain care.

The treatment is also clear.

The prescription for a cure was written into our constitution by our founders. Article V of our constitution allows for the states to call for a convention of states to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government through the proposal of constitutional amendments. Physicians should be the strongest supporters of this brilliantly-crafted states’ rights tool placed into our constitution by our founders.

I urge my fellow American physicians to join with me in supporting an Article V Convention of States to take back control of the practice of medicine. It’s the only way that we can return the practice of medicine back to the intimate relationship between a doctor and patient without interference by the heavy hand of a distant, national government.
