Convention of States Action is proud to announce former New Mexico Congresswoman Yvette Herrell has formally endorsed the Convention of States grassroots movement, recognizing it as perhaps the last best hope for curbing the power of Washington, D.C.
“The federal government has grown far beyond its original design: spending too much, regulating too much, and taking more and more power away from the states,” she affirmed. “I fully support the Convention of States and an Article V Convention - focused on imposing fiscal restraint, reducing federal control, and enacting term limits as the best path forward to limit the federal government and return power back to the American people.”
Having served two years in Congress, Herrell has firsthand experience with the corruption and dysfunction that plague the halls of power. She joins a growing number of federal elected officials who are turning to Article V, the Founder’s tool for constitutional reform, to address the crisis.
According to the second clause of Article V, the state legislatures, “on the Application of… two thirds of the several States,” possess the unique ability to convene an amendments convention. At this gathering, delegates would propose and discuss amendments to the Constitution; subsequently, any proposal approved at the convention would return to the states for three-fourths ratification. Under our application, which has already passed in 19 states, the convention would be limited to considering amendments that check and balance federal power, spending, and terms of office.
Before her tenure in Congress, Herrell represented New Mexico’s 51st District in the state legislature. She knows it is time to return power to the states and the American people — and she believes the only way to do it is through an Article V convention.
