COS for Celebration! Happy Anniversary & 200,000 Signed Petitions

Published in Blog on April 28, 2024 by Susan Quinn

Florida Passed the COS Resolution in April of 2014.

A bipartisan committee of 27 Florida legislators worked on passing the Article V Convention of States Resolution. In July, Florida’s resolution was accepted in D.C., and we became the third state to pass the resolution.

Since then, the need for a Convention of States has only increased. We’ve seen the federal government exceed its approved powers through excessive expenditures, COVID lockdowns and vaccine mandates, and infringing on states’ rights. The need for the Convention of States has intensified over time, and we can be pleased that our state legislators saw the need to pursue this important action ten years ago.

So, it’s our tenth anniversary, and we are proud that we were one of the first states to recognize the need to enact Article V. We have come so far in this country toward making an Article V Convention a reality. More and more states have signed on, and applications for a convention have been filed in almost every state. Our list of endorsers continues to grow.

In Florida, we love to collect new supporters and this year we crossed the 200,000 signers threshold!

We regularly educate citizens at flea markets, gun shows, local festivals, and anywhere else we can find an audience. We continually communicate with our legislators and hold an annual surge in the Tallahassee State Capitol that we call our Rally in Tally.

We are determined to set limits on the federal government and activate our citizens to educate others on the importance of self-governance and Article V, to bring responsible governance back to our country.

Why not join us today?

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
