In this politically divisive time, term limits remain one of the few things that all Americans agree on.
Majorities of Americans from across the political spectrum want to see term limits imposed on Congress, and with good reason. Career politicians learn how to game the system in D.C. to enrich themselves, stay in office, and become almost untouchable.
Unfortunately, as Wisconsin Rep. Tony Kurtz explains in the video below, the Founders of our country would be shocked at how many lifetime politicians are in D.C.
"I truly don't believe our founding fathers thought that you would have people serving in Congress or the Senate for 30 or 40 years," he said. "I think they envisioned something like we have here -- citizen-legislators that go back, work in their districts, and don't serve an entire lifetime in the federal government."
If you support term limits, there's only one way to get them. Congress will never impose term limits on themselves, which is why the people and the states need to join together to call a Convention of States.
An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that limit the terms of office for federal officials. Congress can't do anything about it -- if the states propose such an amendment, and 38 states ratify it, the days of career politicians will come to an end.
