Those who oppose the use of an Article V Convention of States often fail to understand the circumstances surrounding its adoption in the Constitution.
George Mason noted that the Constitution needed a way for the states to propose amendments, and the Constitution's other framers agreed. That's why they unanimously voted in favor of Mason's proposal. They knew that one day the federal government might grow too large and too powerful, and the states needed a way to rein in the national government.
That's why, as Wisconsin Rep. Shae Sortwell notes in the video below, you can't claim to support the Constitution without supporting Article V.
"I always thought of our founding fathers as pretty smart cookies. Thankfully, I have seen the light today," he said, sarcastically. "The representative from the 76th has shown us that she's way smarter than all of our founding fathers."
"I'm pretty sure when I swore an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, I said I would uphold Article V in addition to all the other parts of the Constitution."
