There's a reason the Convention of States Resolution calls for amendments that impose fiscal restraints on Congress and impose term limits on federal officials. The two problems are intimately connected, as Wisconsin Rep. James Edming explained on the floor of the state house.
The longer politicians remain in D.C., the better they get at gaming the system. In this case, that means appropriating taxpayer dollars for pet projects designed to gain votes and solidify that politician's position in Washington.
The more pet projects and useless programs, the bigger the federal budget, the bigger the deficit, and the greater the debt.
If we want to end this cycle of waste, we have to call a Convention of States.
