The Heart and Soul of COS: what Convention of States is all about

Published in Blog on May 21, 2018 by Jonathan Viaud

At its very core, the Convention of States mission is to grow support for the Article V movement through passionate and educated grassroots activists.

In order accomplish our goal, we must develop a support system by tapping into both existing relationships we have with family, friends, neighbors, and business associates, as well as creating new connections through common causes. This is where we are focusing our efforts in New Jersey, and it was on fully display at a fantastic event held by one of our district captains.

District Captain Joe Ciccone (NJ LD-11) was welcomed into the home of a COS supporter in his district to speak about Article V and Convention of States. Ms. Rita Marano, a former business owner and COS supporter, invited her friends, family, former customers, and a county Freeholder to attend the meeting.

Joe gave a very effective and detailed presentation that included clips of the COS Simulation, which he used to demonstrate how a successful Article V Convention would operate. After the presentation, Joe fielded questions that led to spirited discussion about how to solve the counry's problems.

At the conclusion of Joe's presentation, nine of the 13 attendees signed the petition, doing so regardless of their backgrounds, their gender, or even their political affliations. All of these petition signers came to the same conclusion, that in order to restore constitutional balance to our republic, New Jersey must join the Convention of States Article V movement.

Our country was founded when neighbors, friends, and family put all of their differences aside to focus on a common goal: the right to self-govern. Sadly, the federal government has abandoned the founding vision, and self-governance has been disregarded for centralized power in Washington, D.C.

Convention of States, through Article V, offers the solution big enough to solve this problem. The attendees at Rita Marano's house recognized this and have signed up to support our movement. Will you?
