Valentines Get Delivered to Hawaii's State Leaders

Published in Blog on February 15, 2018 by Mark Kenneth White

Hawaii's Surge Wednesday team gets ready to deliver Valentines. Pictured left to right is Jacinth and Aurora Wilson, Jake Wilson (DC), Brett Kulbis (GC), Rebecca Wilson, Rita Kama-Kimura (Vol), Mark White (SD), Emil Svrcina (DC), Amanda Wilson, Ariel and Jasmine Wilson.

As the Convention of States Hawaii team wrapped up its Surge Wednesday program, it delivered individual "Valentines" to their legislators in the form of petition signers listed for each district.

With over 2,390 signatures statewide, each legislator received the full list of those people in their districts who signed the COS petition announcing their support for an Article V convention and requesting their legislator's support as well.

The printed lists of actual resident's names and addresses made quite an impression on staff members and legislators as they realized the growing level of support for COS.

In addition to petitions, legislators also received the Surge article by Prof Robert Natelson The Lamp of Experience: Constitutional Amendments Work.

Team members then delivered a second little valentine, a Convention of States postcard signed by a supporter, requesting their legislator's help in getting our COS resolutions, HR7 and HCR 5, to a hearing in the LMG (Legislative Management) Committee.

Natelson's article dispels the popular myth that constitutional amendments are ignored. The list of district petition signers made a big impression along with a postcard request.

Valentine's Day marked the end of the five-week Surge Wednesday program in Hawaii. Now the volunteers are focusing on a new effort--getting the Convention of States resolutions into public hearings.

There will be more capitol visits, but the focus now is to insist our legislators schedule committee hearings to provide an opportunity for citizens to submit written and oral testimony.

All COS Hawaii supporters will shortly be receiving emails asking them to contact various committee members to hold hearings.
