The Austin capitol was the site of the 2019 strategy and training sessions for the Convention of States Texas team. As always, it was great to connect in person with fellow COS patriots, some of whom came from as far away as the Oklahoma border, Odessa, and El Paso.

On Friday afternoon, July 19, the executive team and regional captains showed up for several hours of strategy discussions, where we talked through our high-level goals of growth, education, and engagement.

Mark MecklerThe Saturday sessions were aimed at a larger group that included District Captains. COS President Mark Meckler, a relatively new resident of Texas, opened the session with a challenge to the grassroots activists. We heard a summary of the District Captain role and walked through the new COS presentation created by the national team.

Over lunch we heard updates about other passed states from our Regional Director Rodney Huckleberry, followed by Legislative Liaison Michael Deffendall, who gave a summary of the 2019 legislative session and a preview of things to come in the Texas legislature.

The afternoon was spent getting hands-on training on various tools that District Captains need to use regularly—email, the Follow-Up Tool, and the Leadership Management Tool.

There is always a need for active District Captains and other leaders to join the team and help spread the COS message across the state. There are many ways you can be involved. Volunteer here!
