Texas Team Goes on the Road

Published in Blog on October 30, 2017 by Sharon Correll

When the Texas House voted in favor of the SJR 2, making Texas state #11 to pass the Convention of States resolution, the COS team looked at each other and said, "Okay, great! What now?"

One answer is to help other states pass the Convention of States resolution. COS Texas Co-Director Paul Hodson was promoted to Regional Director over several western states, and Texas become their "sister state." That means Texas volunteers are occasionally called on to help out with their grassroots efforts.

An opportunity for this kind of collaboration occured over Fourth of July weekend, when eight Texas volunteers joined up with the Utah team at the Freedom Festival. Held in Provo, it is one of the largest festivals of its kind, attended by about 300,000 people from the Beehive State and beyond.

This year, Texans and Utahns handed out COS literature, engaged in conversations, and garnered signatures for the Utah petition.

A young Utahn (left) helps her mother sign the petition. It's never too early to teach the next generation to love liberty! The volunteers also gave out hundreds of cardboard fans advertising the COS message. These were very welcome in the blazing heat!

Brick Oven Restaurant
When the Texans discovered a restaurant with the same name as a favorite hangout in Austin, they knew that was the place for a group lunch.

Debate with Abe Lincoln
Texans Paul Hodson and Mike Cassidy engaged in a spirited discussion with "Abe Lincoln" about Article V and Convention of States.
